Spring

Spring 1897, by Frances Macdonald (1874-1921), watercolour on vellum in a lead frame.

A nude female figure is shown here with flowers in her hair and a baby at her feet. Another female figure hovers above her. Nests, full of baby birds waiting to be fed, decorate the surrounding metal frame. The painting is one of a series made by Macdonald depicting the four seasons.
