Cartoon

Cartoon by T C Williamson, in Glasgow University Magazine 17 December 1913.

Williamson was a regular and much admired contributor to GUM just before the First World War. He died during the War.

A good deal of the humour in the cartoons and illustrations in GUM was darkly satirical. In this image Williamson wishes the reader a Merry Christmas, with the depiction of a highwayman shot from his horse and the carriage he had attempted to rob disapearing safely over the horizon. It was an unusual way to wish readers a happy and safe holiday.
