Whitehill Swimming Pool

Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies gave the "Glasgow's Alive" campaign a boost with this appearance at Whitehill Swimming Pool. Also in the picture (for the December 1992 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin) is Michael Kane, Director of Unicorn Leisure. His firm sponsored the Glasgow Inivitation Masters Swimming Championship at the pool, an event which attracted more than 130 swimmers.

Opened in 1978, Whitehill Swimming Pool is a community-based facility, shared with the neighbouring school, and contains a large pool, small teaching pool, Health and Fitness Suite and over 200 spectators' seats.

"Glasgow's Alive" was one of a number of public relations campaigns aimed at improving the city's image. It was dropped in 1994 when Mr Happy and the "Glasgow's Miles Better" campaign were resurrected.
