Angela Bridgeman was born in London, but brought to Glasgow as a four month old baby by her Trinidad-born parents. At the time of her award, she was a student at the University of Glasgow and a member of Glasgow Athletic Club. In 1981, she won several Scottish championships and was selected to represent both Scotland and Great Britain.
Bridgeman went on to represent Scotland in the 1982 Commonwealth Games at Brisbane, winning a bronze medal in the 4 x 400m event.
