Edmund Lushington

Edmund Law Lushington (1811-1893) was Professor of Greek (1838-1875) and Rector (1884-1887) of the University of Glasgow. Lushington was the brother-in-law of Alfred Lord Tennyson and the poet writes of him in the epilogue to In Memoriam (1850)

"thou art worthy; full of power; As gentle; liberal-minded, great, Consistent; wearing all that weight Of learning lightly like a flower."
