Argyle's Residence

W R Mainds' watercolour sketch of a back stair and cobbled backcourt in Stockwell Street, 1891. The curved stair leads up to the first floor of a house that was reputedly occupied by the Earls of Argyle and their retinues on their visits to the city in the 17th century.
