Advertisements from the Post Office Glasgow directory of 1853-1854 for Mrs George Thomson's outfitters shop in Candleriggs, the house factor John Brown, and John F Wood's zinc drums.

Hanging signs were common outside Glasgow shops in the 18th century. The "sign of the golden fleece" outside Mrs Thomson's shop may have been a relic from a former age.
