The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester.
Page 11 lists officers of excise and begins a list of physicians. In the 18th century, Excise officers were responsible for the collection of duties on all manner of goods, including beer, salt and windows.
