Irish steamer

An newspaper advertisement for G & J Burns' steamer services to Ireland, c 1850s.

The firm began operating a daily steam ship service between Belfast and Greenock in 1849. There was a connecting train service from Glasgow to the New Pier at Greenock, and connecting rail services from Belfast to Dublin, Londonderry and Portrush, which made it possible to travel from Glasgow to Dublin in just 13 hours. G & J Burns's steamers also carried the mail.
