In 1900 Lochhead became a partner in the Hamilton firm of Cullen Lochhead & Brown and he was involved in projects such as Bluevale Public School in Dennistoun, Hamilton Academy and Blackpool Central Library and Art Gallery.

Lochhead took a keen interest in professional affairs.
