Jimmy Gordon

Born in Glasgow and educated at St Aloysius College and the University of Glasgow, Jimmy Gordon was Political Editor at Scottish Television from 1965 until 1973. He began his career in the radio industry in 1972 when he joined a group applying for the local radio licence in Glasgow and became the first managing director of Radio Clyde, the third commercial radio station to be established in the UK. In 1984 he received the Sony Radio Award for Outstanding Services to Radio. He was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Radio Holdings in 1991, becoming Chairman in 1996. In recognition of his services to the radio industry, Gordon was awarded a CBE in 1984 and a life peerage was conferred in 1997.

Gordon has held other posts including those of Chairman of the Scottish Tourist Board, of the Scottish Exhibition Centre and of RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research); a director of Clydeport; member of Glasgow University Court and of the Scottish Development Agency and Trustee of the National Galleries of Scotland.
