Govan and the Clyde

View of the River Clyde in 1827 looking west towards Govan.

James Hopkirk's drawing shows a fishing net being hauled across the river by a rowing boat, with a fisherman's hut on the riverbank. The spire of Govan Parish Church can be seen in the distance. The boats depicted are all of shallow draught - at this time, only ships drawing less than 12 feet could sail up the river to the city.
