An advertisement for the instrument makers A Abraham & Co, from the Post Office Glasgow directory of 1839-1840. In a major port such as Glasgow, "Merchants and Captains" were probably among their most important customers. Others would have included engineers, opera- and theatre-goers, scientists and of course the short-sighted requiring spectacles.
