A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of John Aitchison (1769-1859). The painting was by Sir Daniel Macnee.
Aitchison worked as a clerk under Robert Carrick at the Ship Bank and became a well-known merchant. He was a friend of the explorer Mungo Park (1771-1806) and was an authority on the history of Glasgow.
