(Pierce) Adolphus Simpson (1837-1900) was Professor of Forensic Medicine at the University of Glasgow, 1872-1898.
Born in Ireland, Simpson took his MD at the University of Edinburgh and came to Glasgow in the 1860s to set up in private practice. He became Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at Anderson's College, a resident surgeon at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and an editor of the Glasgow Medical Journal.
Nicknamed "Paddy" by his students, Simpson's taste for high living and preoccupation with his lucrative private practice prevented him from making an impact in the field of forensic medicine.
