James Martin

James Martin (1815-1892) was a draper and warehouseman, and a councillor.

Martin was the son of a Parkhead weaver. He was a radical Liberal in politics and campaigned for universal suffrage, earning the nickname "The East End Tribune". He made several attempts to win a place on the Town Council, and after finally succeeding in 1870 he campaigned vigourously against corruption and the abuse of power.
