Ibrox Library

Ibrox Library

The exterior of Ibrox Library, photographed shortly after its opening in 1981. Designed by Rogerson & Spence, the new library was built at a cost of £691,000. Amenities included a children's project room, a community room, a toilet for the disabled and a public telephone.

With its high level of population density, socially and culturally mixed, Ibrox had long been regarded as a suitable area for a community library. The closure of Kingston Library, which had lost much of its readership in the course of nearby motorway developments, provided the impetus to provide a replacement at Ibrox.

Ibrox was one of the first Real Learning Centres in Glasgow to be created from the existing network of community libraries, officially opening in April 2000. It offers a wide range of computer facilities and learning opportunities to local people.
