Ted Cowan is Professor of Scottish History at the University of Glasgow. He taught at the University of Edinburgh 1967-1979 and was Professor of History and Chair of Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph, Ontario, 1979-1993. His most recent book is For Freedom Alone: The Declaration of Arbroath 1320 (2003).
