Helen Walton tea set

Porcelain teacups and saucers painted by Helen Walton in 1906.

Walton produced these tea sets on commission, often as wedding presents for well-off Glasgow ladies. The designs were painted on blanks supplied by Bells Pottery, Glasgow. The pattern consists of stylised butterflies, flowers and scrolls, and each cup and saucer in the set is slightly different from the others.

Helen Walton came from a family of artists. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art, and was a member of the teaching staff from 1894 to 1902. She is best known for her work designing and decorating ceramics and painting on glass.
